How to Fall

Falling is inevitable when learning stunts, and two basic techniques can be employed when a stunt is too unstable. These can also be used as regular dismount during stunts as well, so just because a stunt doesn’t steady as it should, it doesn’t mean you can just let go and let your flyer fall. No matter what, bases and spotters have a responsibility to help the flyer fall safely in these two common dismounts. Flyers have the responsibility to keep their arms in whatever position that they were in so that they remain predictable. Flyer’s arms should not be failing because you can end up injuring your spotters and/or bases.

Cradle Fall: Catching the flyer in the cradle position
Pencil Fall: The flyer can pin their arms to their sides and come down straight, to be caught by the waist by bases/spotters.

*When used as a regular dismount (not falling) they can grab their bases’ hands and dismount, as long as they communicate that with their bases.
