Like captains, lieutenants need to be dedicated to the team's success, but with more focus on supporting and assisting rather than leading directly.

A team lieutenant plays a crucial role in a team's success. They are responsible for supporting and assisting the captain(s) and the coach in various tasks. One of the key aspects of being a lieutenant is the willingness to make time and energy sacrifices for the team.

Lieutenants often go above and beyond their regular duties to ensure the smooth functioning of the team. They may take on additional responsibilities, provide guidance to team members, and act as a bridge between the captain and other team members.

In addition to these qualifications, a team lieutenant should possess the ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances, remain calm under pressure, and effectively manage conflicts within the team. They should also possess a deep knowledge of choreography and flagging as a whole, as they will be assisting the captain(s) in choreographing.

Overall, a team lieutenant plays a vital role in fostering teamwork, maintaining team morale, and assisting the captain(s) and coach(es) in achieving the team's objectives.

Because I don’t want the lieutenants to feel like their only role is just to assist the captains, I’m adding some specific responsibilities for only lieutenants.

  • Rookie Mentors: I want lieutenants to especially focus on teaching and connecting with first-years. Pair up with a new team member to provide guidance on their individual progress.

  • Performance and Competition Prep: Double-check costumes, accessories, and props before performances or competitions. Manage team timelines, ensuring everyone is ready and on time for call times.

  • Reflection and Feedback: Gather feedback from team members after performances or competitions and present it to captains/coach for improvement.

  • Attendance and Accountability: Help Coach Emma take attendance at every practice and track absences or tardiness for the coach’s review. Partner with absent members to catch them up on missed choreography or information.

Lieutenant's Unique Responsibilities

Captain vs. Lieutenant:

A team lieutenant is an important role within a team, but it is distinct from the position of captain. While both roles contribute to the team's success, there are key differences between them.

The captain(s) is/are the student leader of the team, responsible for assisting in important decisions, choreographing, and representing the team. They have authority and are accountable for the team's overall performance. Captains often have a broader range of responsibilities and are the primary point of contact for coaches, organizers, and other teams.

On the other hand, a team lieutenant supports and assists the captain(s) in various tasks. They act as a second-in-command and work closely with the captain(s) to ensure the smooth functioning of the team. Lieutenants may take on additional responsibilities (look above), provide guidance to team members, and act as a bridge between the captain and other team members. They help execute the captain's vision and maintain team morale.

While captains are responsible for assisting in decisions, lieutenants play a crucial role in implementing those decisions and supporting the captain's leadership. They often have a deep understanding of the team's goals and objectives and work closely with the captain(s) to achieve them.

In summary, the team lieutenant complements the captain's role by providing support, assistance, and an additional layer of leadership within the team. They work collaboratively to ensure the team's success and contribute to fostering a positive and cohesive team environment
