How to Tryout
Leadership tryouts occur every winter/spring, before the big team tryouts.
Each year I will provide a page below with the corresponding information.
Demonstrated Sportsmanship: Displaying good sportsmanship is essential as a leader. Show respect for your teammates, opponents, and officials. This includes treating everyone with fairness and integrity, celebrating wins graciously, and accepting losses with poise. Demonstrating a positive attitude and encouraging fair play will set a great example for your team.
Excellent Communication: Effective communication is key in leadership. You should be able to clearly convey your ideas, provide feedback, and listen actively to others. This involves using both verbal and non-verbal communication skills to ensure that your messages are understood by your teammates. Effective communication also includes being open to receiving feedback and being able to adapt your communication style to different situations and individuals.
Knowledge of the Sport: A leader should have a strong understanding and knowledge of the sport. This includes knowing the rules, strategies, and techniques involved. Having a deep knowledge of the sport will enable you to provide guidance and support to your team, make informed decisions during games, create exciting choreography, and help improve the skills of individual players. Your expertise in the sport will also earn the respect and trust of your teammates.
Team Player: A leader should be a team player who puts the team's goals above personal preferences. Collaborate with your teammates and foster a positive and inclusive team environment. This means being supportive, encouraging, and respectful towards your teammates. It also means being willing to compromise and make sacrifices for the greater good of the team. By fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie, you can create a strong and cohesive team.
Decision-Making Skills: As a leader, you will be faced with making important decisions. Showcase your ability to make sound judgments and consider the best interests of the team. This involves gathering all relevant information, analyzing different options, and making informed decisions promptly. It also means taking responsibility for your decisions and being willing to learn from any mistakes. By demonstrating strong decision-making skills, you can inspire confidence in your team and ensure that the team is moving forward in the right direction.
Motivational Skills: A leader should be able to motivate and inspire their team. Demonstrate your ability to encourage and uplift your teammates during both triumphs and challenges. This involves recognizing and appreciating the efforts and achievements of your teammates, providing constructive feedback and support, and instilling a sense of belief and confidence in the team's abilities. By being a source of motivation and inspiration, you can help your team overcome obstacles and achieve their goals.
